Achilles Tendonitis Insoles & Heel Lifts

Achilles tendonitis insoles are designed to help relieve heel pain and reduce strain on the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. This condition often causes pain, stiffness and reduced ankle movement, particularly during walking, running or climbing stairs.

By cushioning the heel and supporting foot alignment, these insoles can help improve comfort and reduce stress on the tendon during daily activities.

Algeos supplies a range of Achilles tendonitis insoles, along with night splints, footwear, exercise aids and orthotic components to support effective management of the condition. In-stock items ready to ship today.

Achilles tendonitis heel lift support in shoe

What are Achilles tendonitis insoles and heel lifts?

Achilles tendonitis insoles are shoe inserts designed to improve foot mechanics, manage load and support comfort around the heel and tendon.

Some are full-length orthotic insoles with arch support and rearfoot control. Others are targeted heel lifts that raise the heel slightly to reduce stretch through the tendon during walking and standing.

Many people compare arch support insoles with simpler heel lift options. In practice, the best route depends on symptoms, footwear, activity level and whether the issue appears linked to overpronation, tight calf muscles, insertional pain or a more general overload pattern.

Why support can matter

Supportive insoles and heel elevation do not replace assessment or strengthening, but they can be a practical way to reduce aggravating load while you stay active. This is why people often combine adjustable heel lifts with progressive rehab and sensible footwear changes.

Why people choose Algeos' insoles & heel lifts

  • To reduce the pull and stretch through an irritated Achilles tendon during gait.
  • To improve rearfoot stability where foot mechanics may be contributing to overload.
  • To add a practical, removable solution inside everyday footwear.
  • To support walking, work, sport return or standing tolerance while symptoms settle.
  • To trial a simple offloading option before moving to more involved interventions.
  • To combine with calf strengthening, mobility work and activity modification.
People with sudden severe pain, marked swelling, a popping sensation, loss of push-off strength or suspected rupture should seek urgent clinical assessment.

Common Achilles-related concerns

Concern How support may help
Morning stiffness and tendon load sensitivity A modest heel raise may reduce tension through the tendon during walking and standing.
Achilles pain with overpronation or flat feet Structured orthotic support may help control excessive motion and improve load distribution.
Insertional pain or back-of-heel shoe rubbing Cushioning and protection around the posterior heel may improve comfort in closed shoes.
Achilles pain alongside plantar heel discomfort Full-length insoles can support overall foot mechanics and reduce stress through the heel.
Return to activity after ankle strain or instability Some people benefit from combining in-shoe support with ankle bracing and rehab tools.

How to choose the right solution for you

1. Start with the symptom pattern

If the main issue is tendon tightness or pain with push-off, a heel lift can be a sensible starting point. If symptoms sit with broader arch collapse or foot instability, compare full-length orthotic insoles.

2. Match the product to the shoe

Deep, secure shoes can cope better with a lift or orthosis. For tighter footwear, slimmer products such as cork lifts or lower-profile orthoses may fit more easily.

3. Decide whether adjustability matters

An adjustable option is often helpful when testing tolerance, changing footwear or stepping support down gradually. See the Heel Assist Adjustable Heel Lift and Clearly Adjustable Heel Lift.

4. Consider whether protection is also needed

If irritation is worsened by rubbing at the back of the shoe, adding a protective sleeve or pad can be useful alongside offloading support. The Silipos Achilles Heel Pad is one route to compare.

5. Think about the wider chain

Achilles overload may sit with calf tightness, pronation or previous ankle injury. That is where products from shin splints support, pronation support or body braces and supports can also become relevant.

6. Use support as part of a plan

Insoles and heel lifts are often most useful when combined with load management, progressive strengthening and sensible activity pacing. For rehab tools, browse home fitness and rehab accessories including resistance bands.

Frequently asked questions

Do insoles help Achilles tendonitis?

They can help when the insole matches the problem. For some people, a slight heel raise is the key feature. For others, better rearfoot and arch control from orthotic insoles is more useful. The goal is usually to reduce irritating load and improve comfort while rehab continues.

Are heel lifts better than full-length orthotics?

Not always. A heel lift may suit straightforward tendon offloading, while full-length support may be better when pronation, flat feet or broader biomechanical issues are involved. Some people progress from one approach to the other depending on symptoms and footwear.

Can I use a heel lift in both shoes?

Some people use one lift, others use paired devices, and the right setup depends on the aim. Products such as the Heel Assist Adjustable Heel Lift are supplied as a pair, while single-lift options can be useful in more specific fitting situations.

What if my Achilles pain is insertional and right at the heel?

A heel lift is often considered because it may reduce compression and stretch at the lower part of the tendon, but footwear shape and heel counter pressure also matter. Adding protection such as the Silipos Achilles Heel Pad may also improve comfort.

Can overpronation make Achilles pain worse?

It can contribute in some people by changing how forces travel through the foot and ankle. That is why users often compare Achilles support with overpronation solutions, arch support insoles and more structured orthoses.

Should I still do exercises if I wear insoles or heel lifts?

Usually, yes. In-shoe support is commonly used alongside strength work and load management, not instead of it. Rehab tools such as resistance bands can be useful when building calf capacity and ankle control as guided by a clinician.

When should I get professional advice?

Get assessed if pain is severe, persistent, worsening, linked to sudden injury, or affecting normal walking. This is especially important if you suspect rupture, marked swelling or significant weakness. Support products can be helpful, but they work best when matched to the right diagnosis.

How Night Splints Help and Treat Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, affecting both active individuals and those who spend a lot of time on their feet. It is characterised by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. This condition can cause significant discomfort, especially during the first few steps in the morning or after periods of rest. Fortunately, there are effective treatment options available, and one of the most effective, yet often overlooked, is the use of night splints.
