EVA Foam Sheet: Properties and Applications

EVA Density
EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam is known for its lightweight yet durable nature, making it suitable for various applications. The density of EVA foam determines its firmness and flexibility, with options ranging from low to high density.
Low-density EVA foam provides excellent cushioning properties, ideal for applications such as insoles, padding for orthotic devices and cushioned packaging materials. High-density EVA foam provides better support. This makes it good for uses that need strength, like prosthetic parts and industrial gaskets.
EVA Thermoforming
Another noteworthy property of Algeos' EVA is its thermoforming capability. You can easily shape EVA foam with heat. This allows for making custom parts and detailed designs.
This thermoforming ability allows manufacturers to adapt EVA foam to fit specific shapes and contours, making it highly versatile. EVA Heating Temperatures
The ideal temperature for thermo-moulding depends on the material thickness and hardness. The standard principles would be:

It is important to indicate the above mentioned conditions should be adjusted according to the following patterns:
- The thinner the material the lower the temperature or the exposure timing. The only effective way to determine heating times based on variable thickness and sheet size, is to test in stages based on the above guidelines.
- The heat source is also important; a direct infrared radiation will be much more aggressive than heating a piece with circulating air system, meaning the temperature should be adjusted accordingly. Again, test in stages as per above.
- In general, EVA copolymers should not be extruded hotter than 200°C since degradation may occur. Degradation products include the elimination of acetic acid, which can account for a “vinegar” odour and corrosion of some materials.
