Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Carpal Tunnel Post-op Pain Relief

Most people expect the pain or numbness from carpal tunnel (after surgery) will be immediately gone. Usually it's not. During your first days at home, the surgical pain will make life difficult. Your hand will start to “wake up” a few hours after getting home. Then the pain escalates slowly and steadily. But you'll have pain medication to help.

When the bandages are off and it's time to resume life, that when this particular post-op wrist support will help. Will protect your wound from bumps and frction and help reduce scar tissue.

Other Tips

A cold pack placed on your wrist for up to 20 minutes at a time several times a day may help releiving pain and discomfort. Do this for the next 3 days or until the swelling goes down. Use manufacturers’ cold pack instructions, like putting a thin cloth between the ice pack and your skin.

Elevation can also help - prop up the sore wrist on a pillow when you apply the cold pack or anytime you sit or lie down during the next 3 days. Try to keep it above the level of your heart. This should help reduce swelling.
