Pressure care management
Skin Protecting Pressure Sore Cushions for Clinical Care Use
Pressure sore cushions are designed to reduce sustained loading on vulnerable areas such as the heels, sacrum, buttocks and lower limbs. For people who sit or lie for long periods, the right support improves comfort, supports skin protection and helps carers position the body more effectively.
This category brings together guidance and direct routes into pressure care management, wheelchair cushions, bottom cushions, heel protectors and patient handling products.
What are pressure sore cushions?
Pressure sore cushions redistribute load, offload specific areas and improve positioning for people at risk of pressure damage. They are used in beds, chairs, wheelchairs and repositioning routines.
Clinical summary: The best cushion is not the softest. Selection depends on body area, mobility, duration of use, repositioning needs and whether the goal is prevention or protection.
Why people choose pressure sore cushions
Pressure redistribution
- Spreads load away from pressure points
- Supports longer sitting or lying
- Works within a pressure care plan
Targeted offloading
- Supports heels, sacrum and coccyx
- Aids repositioning
- Complements patient handling
Practical care support
- Simplifies care routines
- Supports hygiene-focused environments
- Available in single-patient formats
What causes pressure sores?
- Pressure: sustained compression reduces blood flow
- Shear: skin and bone move in different directions
- Friction: rubbing weakens skin integrity
- Moisture: softens skin and increases breakdown risk
Who is at risk?
- People with limited mobility
- Elderly individuals
- People with reduced sensation (e.g. diabetes)
- Malnourished individuals
Prevention essentials
