Product Description

Plastazote LD45 Blue Foam - 2000 x 1000 x 9mm

Plastazote LD45 is a firm, closed-cell, cross-linked polyethylene foam widely used for orthotic, prosthetic, medical, footwear and protective applications.

This 9mm blue LD45 sheet provides a useful balance of cushioning, firmness and durability, making it particularly suitable where greater support and resistance to compression are required compared with softer Plastazote grades.

Supplied as a full 2000mm x 1000mm x 9mm sheet, the material can be cut, shaped, ground and heat formed to create customised components for clinical, workshop and technical applications.

Key Features

  • LD45 firm-density foam - provides greater support and durability than softer Plastazote grades.
  • Closed-cell polyethylene construction - lightweight with very low moisture absorption.
  • Heat mouldable - suitable for thermoforming and custom fabrication.
  • Easy to fabricate - can be cut, shaped, sanded and ground using standard workshop equipment.
  • Washable surface - its closed-cell structure makes it easier to clean than absorbent foams.
  • Suitable for lamination - may be bonded with other materials to create multi-layer constructions.
  • Blue finish - suitable for professional orthotic, prosthetic and fabrication applications.

Working with Plastazote LD45

Cutting and Shaping

LD45 can be cut using sharp knives, suitable saws, die-cutting equipment and other standard workshop tools. It can also be sanded or ground to refine the finished shape.

Heat Forming

As a thermoplastic polyethylene foam, Plastazote LD45 can be heated and shaped for customised applications. Care should be taken to avoid overheating the material, and suitable ventilation should be provided when heat forming.

Bonding and Lamination

Plastazote can be bonded to itself or laminated with other suitable materials. Adhesive performance will depend on the adhesive, surface preparation and second material being bonded, so testing is recommended before production use.

Cleaning

The closed-cell structure absorbs very little moisture and allows the surface to be wiped or gently cleaned. Where Plastazote forms part of a finished product, the cleaning method should also be suitable for any adhesives, coverings or other materials used.

Why Choose LD45?

LD45 is a useful choice where a firmer and more supportive Plastazote foam is required. Its higher density provides improved structural support and resistance to repeated loading while retaining the lightweight, heat-formable and low-moisture characteristics associated with Plastazote.

This makes the 9mm LD45 sheet particularly useful for orthotic and prosthetic fabrication, footwear modifications, supportive padding and other applications where a softer cushioning foam may not provide sufficient firmness.

Storage

Store the sheet flat in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and harsh chemicals to help maintain its condition and performance.
