Koven Doppler Probes
5 MHz: Deeper penetrating vascular assessments, larger limb vessels, oedematous limbs.
8 MHz: Standard peripheral vascular assessment, pedal and brachial pulse detection, diabetic foot circulation.
10 MHz: High-resolution superficial vessel flow, small and distal arteries, fine detail vascular assessments.
Product Description
Koven Doppler Probes
Doppler ultrasound probes transmit and receive ultrasonic frequencies to detect moving blood cells and assess vascular flow. Selecting the appropriate frequency is important in NHS clinical practice: lower frequencies penetrate deeper tissue but give lower resolution, while higher frequencies provide sharper signals from superficial vessels.
5 MHz Doppler Probe – Deeper Vascular Penetration
Short description:
A 5 MHz vascular Doppler probe provides deeper penetration with reliable detection of blood flow in larger and deeper vessels. This makes it suitable for general peripheral and limb vascular assessments, particularly where limb oedema or deeper anatomy may attenuate higher-frequency signals.
Indications and clinical use:
Used for detecting arterial and venous flow in deeper vessels such as the popliteal or femoral arteries, and in patients with oedematous limbs where higher frequencies may not penetrate sufficiently. This frequency can be beneficial in comprehensive lower limb arterial disease screening and in assessing Ankle–Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
Compatibility:
Works with the Minidop ES-100VX Pocket Doppler – 8 MHz and Bidop 3 Handheld Vascular Doppler when fitted with the appropriate frequency probe head.
8 MHz Doppler Probe – Standard Vascular Assessment
Short description:
An 8 MHz vascular Doppler probe is the clinical workhorse frequency for routine vascular examinations. It balances penetration and resolution and is ideal for peripheral arterial assessments in lower limbs.
Indications and clinical use:
Standard choice for detecting pedal, tibial and brachial pulses, evaluating peripheral arterial disease and diabetic foot circulation, and performing ABPI and segmental pressure studies. This frequency works well in general podiatric, vascular and primary care clinics.
Compatibility:
Included as standard with the Minidop ES-100VX Pocket Doppler – 8 MHz and supplied as the default probe with the Bidop 3 Handheld Vascular Doppler. Links:

10 MHz Doppler Probe – High-Resolution Superficial Vascular Detection
Short description:
A 10 MHz vascular Doppler probe offers higher axial resolution for small, superficial vessels. It is particularly useful when fine detail of blood flow is required near the skin surface.
Indications and clinical use:
Best suited to detecting and characterising small and distal vessels such as the dorsalis pedis and digital arteries in foot and leg assessments, especially in diabetic foot clinics and detailed peripheral vascular examinations. High-frequency probes can improve signal clarity in superficial vessels where lower frequencies may lose resolution.
Compatibility:
Can be used with the Minidop ES-100VX Pocket Doppler – 8 MHz and Bidop 3 Handheld Vascular Doppler with the appropriate probe head fitted.
