Product Description

Excel Healthcare 2.5 Litre Ultrasonic Cleaner

The Excel Healthcare 2.5 Litre Ultrasonic Cleaner is a compact, digitally controlled cleaning unit designed for the effective pre-cleaning of reusable instruments before sterilisation.

Featuring a stainless steel tank, controlled heating and five fast cleaning cycles, it uses ultrasonic cavitation to help remove debris and contaminants from instrument surfaces, including areas that may be difficult to reach by manual cleaning alone.

Key Selling Points

2.5 litre capacity

A practical capacity for routine instrument cleaning in podiatry, dental and other clinical environments.

5 fast cleaning cycles

Five selectable cleaning cycles provide flexible cleaning times for different instrument loads and routine cleaning requirements.

Digital temperature control

Controlled heating helps maintain the cleaning solution at the selected operating temperature for more consistent cleaning performance.

Stainless steel tank

The durable stainless steel cleaning tank is designed for repeated professional use and straightforward routine cleaning.

Ultrasonic cavitation cleaning

High-frequency ultrasonic energy creates microscopic bubbles within the cleaning solution, helping loosen contaminants from instrument surfaces and difficult-to-access areas.

Complete cleaning accessories

Supplied with a lid, plastic basket and tray, stainless steel basket and power lead for convenient set-up and use.

How It Works

Ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves transmitted through a suitable cleaning solution. These sound waves create millions of microscopic bubbles in a process known as cavitation.

As the bubbles form and collapse, they generate gentle cleaning action around the surfaces of immersed instruments. This helps loosen and remove debris from exposed surfaces, joints, hinges and other areas that may be difficult to clean manually.

Ultrasonic cleaning is a cleaning process, not a sterilisation process. Where instruments require sterilisation, they should be appropriately rinsed, dried, inspected and sterilised after ultrasonic cleaning in accordance with the instrument manufacturer’s instructions and local infection-control procedures.

Ideal For

Clinical instrument cleaning

  • Podiatry and chiropody practices
  • Dental clinics
  • Veterinary practices
  • Medical and allied-health environments
  • Other professional settings using reusable compatible instruments

Pre-cleaning before sterilisation

  • Removal of visible debris and contaminants
  • Cleaning around instrument joints and hinges
  • Cleaning difficult-to-access surface areas
  • Supporting consistent instrument reprocessing
  • Preparing suitable instruments for subsequent sterilisation

Why Use Ultrasonic Cleaning?

Reusable instruments should be thoroughly cleaned before sterilisation. Residual contamination can interfere with the subsequent sterilisation process by preventing steam or other sterilising agents from reaching all instrument surfaces effectively.

Ultrasonic cleaning helps provide a consistent method of instrument cleaning while reducing the amount of direct manual brushing required. This can be particularly useful around joints, serrations and other complex instrument surfaces.

How to Use

  1. Place the ultrasonic cleaner on a stable, level and dry work surface.
  2. Check that the stainless steel tank is clean before use.
  3. Prepare a suitable ultrasonic cleaning solution according to the detergent manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. Fill the tank to the appropriate operating level. Do not exceed the maximum fill level.
  5. Where fresh cleaning solution has been added, degas the solution before processing instruments where recommended.
  6. Place suitable instruments into the supplied basket. Instruments should not be placed directly on the base of the tank.
  7. Lower the basket into the cleaning solution and fit the lid.
  8. Select the appropriate cleaning cycle and temperature in accordance with the instrument and cleaning-agent instructions.
  9. After the cycle is complete, carefully remove the basket.
  10. Rinse, dry and inspect instruments as required before proceeding to any subsequent sterilisation process.

Degassing Fresh Cleaning Solution

Freshly prepared cleaning solution naturally contains dissolved air. This trapped air can reduce the effectiveness of ultrasonic cavitation during the first cleaning cycle.

Running the ultrasonic cleaner briefly with fresh solution before adding instruments helps remove dissolved gases and allows cavitation to occur more consistently.

Follow the equipment and detergent manufacturer’s instructions regarding the appropriate degassing procedure.

Benefits

  • 2.5 litre cleaning capacity

Excel Healthcare 2.5 Litre Ultrasonic Cleaner FAQs

What is the capacity of the ultrasonic cleaner?

The unit has a 2.5 litre stainless steel cleaning tank.

What is the manufacturer code?

The Excel Healthcare manufacturer reference is 4820.

Does it have a heater?

Yes. The unit incorporates controlled heating with digital temperature control.

How many cleaning cycles are available?

The cleaner offers five fast cleaning cycles, selected using the digital controls.

Does an ultrasonic cleaner sterilise instruments?

No. Ultrasonic cleaning removes debris and contaminants from compatible instruments, but it does not sterilise them. Instruments requiring sterilisation must undergo an appropriate sterilisation process afterwards.

What accessories are included?

The 4820 is supplied with a lid, plastic basket and tray, stainless steel basket and power lead.

What are the dimensions?

Excel Healthcare lists the dimensions as approximately 245 × 145 × 85 mm.

Can instruments be placed directly into the tank?

Instruments should normally be placed in the supplied cleaning basket rather than directly against the base of the stainless steel tank. Always follow the equipment and instrument manufacturer’s instructions.

What type of cleaning solution should be used?

Use a cleaning solution specifically suitable for ultrasonic instrument cleaning and compatible with the instruments being processed. Follow the cleaning-agent manufacturer’s recommended dilution and temperature instructions.

Why should fresh ultrasonic solution be degassed?

Fresh cleaning solution contains dissolved gases that can interfere with cavitation. Degassing helps remove this trapped air so the ultrasonic cleaning action can operate more effectively and consistently.

Is this suitable for podiatry instruments?

Yes, it is suitable for compatible reusable podiatry instruments where ultrasonic cleaning is permitted by the instrument manufacturer. Instruments should subsequently be processed in accordance with the clinic’s validated decontamination and sterilisation procedures.
