This week is World Well-Being Week, which is a global initiative to promote and raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing. This week-long celebration takes place every year during the last week in June, with different organisations and communities hosting events and initiatives to support this cause,

Well-being is not just about feeling good, it is about living a fulfilled balanced life. When we prioritise our well-being, we are better equipped to handle stress, build resilience and be able to maintain a healthy relationship. It encompasses all aspects of our lives and is influenced by various factors such as environment, relationships, lifestyle choices and personal outlook. Prioritising your well-being has numerous benefits including improved physical health, better mental health, increased productivity and stronger relationships.

Ways to prioritise your well-being

1. Engage in regular physical activity

Exercise releases endorphins which are known as ‘feel-good’ hormones that help reduce stress levels and boost mood, so regular exercise not only keeps us physically fit but also has positive effects on our mental health.

2. Practice healthy eating habits

A balanced diet consisting of whole foods like fruits and vegetables provides us with essential nutrients that fuel our body while improving immune function, the food we consume plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. Avoid processed foods high in sugar or unhealthy fats which can negatively affect our physical and mental health.

3. Prioritise quality sleep

Lack of sleep can lead to irritability, difficulty concentrating, and increased stress levels, so getting enough sleep is essential for your well-being. You should aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night in a quiet and comfortable environment to ensure restful sleep.

4. Spend time with loved ones

Make time to connect with loved ones whether it’s through a phone call, video chat or spending quality time together in person. Strong social connections are crucial for our well-being.  Social support can help reduce stress levels and increase feelings of happiness

5. Take breaks and practice self-care

Make time for breaks throughout your day, whether it’s taking a walk outside, reading a book or practising mindfulness. Slow down and take care of yourselves.
