BAPO Winners

Algeos are pleased to announce the winners of the BAPO Technician of the Year. We had over 20 nominations this year and again was a difficult decision. Congratulations to our winners who contributed so much to the O&P Industry, their colleagues and of course the end user patients.

Algeos are again sponsoring the Award in 2021 (hopefully in person) at the BAPO conference next year.

The 2020 Algeos/BAPO O&P Technicians of the Year are:

3rd Place – Connor Isherwood – Beagle Orthopaedic

2nd Place – Steven Farrell – Guys and St Thomas NHS

Winner -  Alan Proud – Peacock Medical

Connor Isherwood

Connor Isherwood

We were particularly impressed with your nomination form. Particularly that you have started only 6 years ago as an apprentice and to quote the nomination; Connor has continued to develop your role and yourself; working with more complex cases, prescriptions and now has an exceptional knowledge of complex cast rectification. You are now mentoring Apprentices yourself by providing a constructive and productive environment for the apprentice to flourish.  It is gratifying to see such a young person so keen to learn manual skills and enjoy his role within the company with such enthusiasm.

Steven Farrell

Steven Farrell

The panel and I were particularly impressed with your nomination form. Particularly that you have worked in the Regional Prosthetic Service for 28 years and since 2012 have been integral to the success of the Specialist Technicians clinic with glowing feedback from Patients and Colleagues alike. Including “I have worked with Steven for 20 years and have seen first-hand that his skills and knowledge of materials and limb builds is second to none. Steven goes above and beyond to get a good outcome for our patients”. A patient also added that “Steven is gifted, caring, a true craftsman, having an eye for detail and the only person who gets it right”.

Alan Proud

The panel and I were particularly impressed with your nomination form. You received two nominations including one by the Royal Academy of Engineering. The Engineering UK campaign sounded interesting and encouraged more young people from all backgrounds (130k views on Youtube!) to consider engineering careers. We at Algeos have always believed that Technicians are an integral part of the Care Pathway that a Patient receives and the campaign will raise the profile of the O&P Technicians. The nomination also provided a glowing reference from colleague including “that Alan is an astute problem solver, sharing ideas and solutions to resolve any issues. Families, Careers and MDT colleagues often express their great thanks for the help that Alan has provided”
