Monofilaments are designed to test the loss of sensation in the feet of diabetic patients. If a patient cannot feel a 10g monofilament then they must be considered to be at risk of developing a neuropathic ulcer.

The Bailey MF filament is unaffected by atmospheric moisture, allowing total reliability. Practical, compact, easy to use design for the busy clinician.

Mode of Action

As the monofilament is applied with pressure against the skin, it will start to bend. Once it starts to bend, it applies a specific force to the skin.

Intended Use

The monofilaments are primarily indicated for testing the feet of diabetic patients for loss of protective sensation associated with peripheral neuropathy. If a patient can not feel 10g, then they should be considered ‘at risk’ for developing pressure or neuropathic ulcers and should be referred to a specialist for further assessment.
