Algeos feels
effects of a tanker fire
Back to: Website Index >> Algeos News Dated April 2006 Algeos has felt the full effects of a tanker fire in the Gulf of Aden (Indian Ocean). Fire broke out on the ‘Hyundai Fortune’ cargo ship on 21st March while on route from Taiwan to Liverpool.
Staff at Algeos thought nothing of this until it was made clear to us by our shipping company that 100,000 square feet of pigskin lining was on board the vessel that was on fire. If you're a customer of Algeos, you will know that Algeos distributes pigskin into the UK medical markets for use in orthopaedic appliances. The fire has forced us move quickly to resource a new consignment of pigskin to meet the demand of our UK customers. Algeos marketing manager, Marc Cameron says: “I watched the news story last week on TV, but nothing clicked at first. It was only while back at my desk the following day that I was made aware of the problem after receiving an email from our shipping company. You just don’t expect a news story about a burning ship on the other side of the World to have a direct effect on your business. But it obviously has”.
